RO/DI storage and dispenser help

Could use some advice/suggestions: I just stepped up my game and bought an RODI starter kit from spectrapure. I hate how long it took to make my water. I want to find a way to always have some RODI on tap. I only have a 40B with 20H sump so I'll likely never need more than 10 gallons of RODI except for times when I have a major problem and need a massive water change (hopefully never).



So here is what I am thinking:



I purchased an automatic shut off kit from BRS with the valve and float switch. I have an old 10 gal stand I am not using. I was going to throw the stand in my small apartment laundry room (more like a small closet) and buy a 10 gallon gatorade cooler (something like this http://amzn.com/B000F6SHTK) and put it on top of the stand with the float switch installed in. This way when I want water, all I need to do is press the lever and it will dispense and then automatically start to refill it, and shut off when full. I might even see if I can attach some tubing to the spout so that I can more easily direct the water. The cooler is a bit expensive and I don't need the insulation, would it be easy/safe to make my own container with a spout?





My alternative solution would be to just buy a brute trash can (i dont have room for a 55 gal) and just buy a pump with it. Not sure which would work better.



If anyone has any suggestions to improve on this please let me know.

You can make your own container, it just needs to be food grade. A rubber maid tub will work as well. If you want more water, but not 55 gallons, the brite 32 gallon will work with a float valve as well.

I kinda like the cooler idea. In a pinch you could heat it and add salt for a quick water change.

That's what I do. I collect 88 gallons at a time into two 44 gallon grey Brute cans plumbed together with bulkheads.

Collecting larger volumes at a time depletes the DI more slowly so you get more water from it.

This sounds like a good plan, but I'd echo the advice other folks gave about only running the filter to fill all/most of the container instead of continuously.

The ASV is perfect for convenience and piece of mind, but I wouldn't leave it pressurized all the time.

ok thanks. So I will leave it on to fill and then turn it off when i can until I use the reserve

You will reduce the life of the membrane using it in short bursts. So for sure wait until your reservoir is almost empty to cycle it on. Make sure to get a TDS meter (or dual) to keep tabs on the health of your membrane and DI resin. I use 2 dual TDI Meters.
