Hello I have a new RODI system I am converting over from tap water. Can I use straight RODI water and salt or is there anything else I need to add. I was reading possibly minerals. If so, what do I need to add? Thank you

Just those two is fine!

All the “mineral” also called “trace elements” is part of the salt mix.

I would prob just use tap water for a fowlr treated with a water conditioner and maybe an airstone. I woukd def get an algae scrubber. I find them even more beneficial for fowlr cuz im guessing you will have big messy eaters.

Disagreeing on this one here.

There is always the chance of adding corals later on and I think you’ll come to regret it if you start with tap water.

Distilled water at the very least if you want FOWLR

Thank you for your advice. I have an algae problem so I switched to RODI. Do you need to add anything else besides salt? I am reading I may have to add minerals....

Again, no need to add minerals.

Especially if it’s FOWLR.

Where are you reading you need to add minerals? I would avoid that source of information if you can.

Unless you are keeping some high demanding corals, and know exactly what trace elements you are missing, you do not have to add minerals.

Thank you, I missed your first reply. Perfect!

Algae and fowlrs go hand in hand. Big eaters and no nutrient export. Thats why i suggested algae scrubber. And oversize it.
