I am hoping to finally start seeing all this hair algae go away. I built a egg crate media basket to replace the nasty stock sponge that came with this tank. Currently running a bag of carbon, bag of purigen and some floss. Made the mistake of adding crushed coral to try and hide an ugly sand bed and cut down on storms...now I am slowly scooping it out a cup at a time and finding that my SB has calmed down lol. I did say I was learning. Hopefully everything will stay nice and white once I get it all out.
Fluval Flex 15
LR and LS
Stock Return
Aquatic Life 115 skimmer, air mod
Uniclife 1058 GPH with controller
Jebao DP-4 dosing pump, not running yet
2 Current USA Orbit IC with Loop controller
And here are some early shots from when it started and its evolution...from bare, to ugly, to slowly getting better and taking shape. Alot of learning, that is for sure! This tank has me looking to bigger things as I have been reading about the Waterbox 135.4! That will be what comes next and I'm fairly certain it will be a full Loop setup as I like what I have on the Flex. Maybe by then they will have their Bluetooth out lol...
Finally decided to stop being lazy and hooked up my DP-4 dosing pump this evening. I have been manually dosing Kent Nano 2 part but I often just leave it if I work late. I picked up these cool water flasks and drilled the caps for the hoses. Part B needs to be shaken so I drilled for an air hose as well and hooked it up to the air pump I used to use for my old skimmer. The air pump is connected to a smart things outlet as my entire home runs on automation. Part A is set to dose at 11:00 pm, the air pump kicks on in part B at 11:02 and shuts off at 11:04, part B then doses at 11:05. We'll see tomorrow what needs to be tweaked!
Update : for whatever reason my dosing pump does not pump anything at the desired time. I calibrated the heads and set up 1 and 2. They are both set for 2ml, 1 time a day, every day (0) at 23:00 and 23:05. The time come and goes with no action from the doser. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Seems to work fine though I have nothing to compare it to. Setup was pretty simple and it works...I guess I will really be able to tell when everything migrates to a larger tank when we move lol...
Came home to the oddest thing today. I had a package from Amazon sitting on my porch though I had not ordered anything. A while back I had asked about returning a light I had bought but it was not very good and I had tons of algae. It was outside of the time and I understood that, it was a Micmol Aquaair 20 I believe. Anyways, the package was a white Micmol Aqua 300, a much nicer light, and free. That was a very cool gesture on their part and I figured I'd share about some pretty good customer service!
So I returned the DP-4 pump and went with a DP-3. The DP-3 actually worked but these guys really need to work on their manual. Two different guides with very different directions! I finally got around to setting up my Gyre 1K and doing a much needed deep cleaning. Some of my corals are mad but they will get over it. I am sad to report that I have lost my Nemo...I mean really lost him. No corpse, no amonia spike...nothing, he's just gone, I have no clue where he went!
Check the overflow, the floor, behind the tank, in filter sock, in pumps check the floor, check the sump, check the floor behind the tank, oh and the floor
I have checked the floor, today as part of my deep clean I also cleaned up the wire mess and did some well needed cable management. No Nemo to be found, it wobbles the mind...had him for almost a year! He was a jerk, anytime I had to work in the tank he would head butt my hand and nip at my wrists...I'm going to miss that
