I bring up this subject because today my skimmer made some funky noises and wasn't blowing as many bubbles. Took it apart and wow, was it full of schmoo. Turns out the problem was bubble algae obstructing the venturi. First time I cleaned it out beyond emptying the cup in months. Will make it part of my monthly routine now.

What about the rest of you? How often, if ever, do you tear down equipment for a thorough cleaning? Filters, skimmers, sponges, all that sort of stuff.

Same, as evident by the skimmer. Really been trying to keep up on it.

What do you do with the pumps? Just clean out any accumulated muck?

I generally take them completely apart, scrub with a toothbrush and vinegar then rinse. I try to get them looking like new.
