Hi all, just noticed this corrosion on the wet side assembly. Is this anything to worry about? I have lost a lot of SPS recently but could be other issues too. I recently changed the salt I use too.

Have you done an ICP test? I would do one of those if you can

Rust shouldn't be there. It suggest that the magnet is failing and needs to be replaced.

Metals used to make the magnet (neodymium) are toxic to corals, especially sps. That could definitely be your smoking gun. In my opinion, icp testing is a waste of money unless you subscribe to the concept. Get yourself some cuprisorb or any heavy metal absorbing product and follow the instructions. That, along with water changes will get you back to normal.

If you don't see visible cracks on your wetside magnet, then you caught it early, but perhaps not early enough to prevent coral death.

It’s on the steel shaft. I think it’s GFO sticking and staining. The magnet is still good.

Would neodymium show up on an ICP?

My latest one was ok for those metals usually tested.

If you look up replacement parts for it they are cheaper than buying a whole new wetside. I believe around $40 and shipping. You will need to save the remainder of the wetside. As you will only receive what you are showing in the top photo.

Best of luck,
Shelley
