Rust on skimmer

I have an old skimmer - Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 Cone Skimmer
it use to work well, but it has been in storage for a couple of years.

I pulled it out storage to use it and saw that some of the screws have rusted :(

can i clean this and re use it ?
the pump is - Bubble Blaster HY2000S

I wouldn't trust it. The plastic looks like it needs to be replaced as well. I would try to get a used skimmer on the marketplace. Im not saying you can't at all use it. It just might be more hassle then its worth.

the all the housing is in good condition..
its just the 2 screws that rusted :(

it is good skimmer.. i must not have cleaned it well before storing it away..
i would like to use it *** IF ***possible..

but not sure about the rust part

Check with CoralVue to see if you can source replacement screws. Also, try taking a stiff brush to it and see if you can take as much surface rust off as possible. If it makes you feel any better, there are a multitude of Ecotech Vortech MP wave maker users with rusty wetside shafts in use without issue.

i found the new Stainless steal screws already ...

but was not sure about the little bit of the rust ...

hi ,might want to put a little super glue on the outside of the upper right hole ,see cracking

You could try CLR on the plastic to remove the rust stains. They look more cosmetic than any significant source of iron that may leach into your tank however.
Thax I will try that out

well bad news :) the pump is dead...
the impeller has expanded so it not moving much water..
and the replacement cost for Bubble Blaster HY2000S is 265 $..o_O

I guess it better to get a new skimmer.. any recommendations? f
the tank will be a MARINE X90.3 so about 80 gal total water volume

nope .. a new one was 265 $ i am playing to just buy a new skimmer at this point :)

I'm having the same dilemna. I have a RO XP2000 SSS and have to debate whether I should buy the pump for my 80 gallon or just buy a new skimmer all together. I'd definitely make sure that the pump isn't as expensive to replace for next time.

just buy a new skimmer no point paying 265 just for the pump, gods know what else might break down th eline..
