No it’s not, my understanding is that tetanus came from the soil so I didn’t know if I’d still need it for this :/

I can’t imagine coming to R2R for medical advice…. But I would suggest flushing it well with peroxide or similar wound cleanser and consider a trip to the ER or urgent care if it is more than just a superficial cut. There are a lot of possibly harmful bacteria in your tank and I would worry more about that than rust itself.

I was just thinking that a tetanus shot would happen in a medical setting where the attending could go deeper if needed.
Timing on tetanus is not ultra critical and presumably the poster would seek medical attention if the wound became infected.

If not, they might put off treatment as a pattern of life and death might solve all their problems. I have known people who went this way and they presumably were happy to not deal with a doctor visit.

I am a Brit living in the US so I was hesitant to pay to see go to the ER or urgent when the outcome would most likely be to see if an infection develops which I can do myself for free aha.

Ultimately I decided to wait and see myself, gonna go to see my primary tomorrow and get a tetanus shot if they deem it.

The cut I got is extremely small, the razor I scrape algae just fell off the stand and only my knee when I was under the tank. I cleaned it pretty well and put iodine and antibac on there but because it did draw blood I was concerned.

I’m an ER doc. Do a good soap and water scrub. Tetanus is definitely warranted if not up to date, but it’s fine to wait until you see your primary. If it starts turning red/warm go to urgent care for antibiotics.

I work in a hospital laboratory. A couple of years ago we had a patient who hooked their finger while fishing and waited until it was a raging infection to go the doctor. They hadn't had a tetanus shot within the last decade. They actually got tetanus. Their lab values gave me a molecular and cellular view of the damage being wreaked on their body. They were intubated in the ICU for **weeks,** spent another month or so on a step-down floor, and then spent a few months in rehab. I'm only a medical laboratory scientist and not a doctor, but I would not hesitate even a week on getting a tetanus shot up to date! There's no harm if it's not needed, but huge benefits if it is. Hope it heals up without incident!

Worked in a hospital for a few years. I’d make sure you keep it washed with soap water, maybe some hydrogen peroxide. I’d make sure you go get your tetanus shot, but if starts to get inflamed, burning pain, or swelling? Er would be your best bet
