Safe Materials For DIY Screen top?

What is considered (if anything) unsafe for a mesh screen top? I went window shopping and everything i found seemed to make me question if it would break down and leech into my tank over a long period of time (like aluminum for example, would it break down overtime and start dropping aluminum into the tank? even if not visibly, then on a smaller level)
