Salifert Calcium Test Kit Instructions Change

So how many of you look at the directions when you get a new test kit? I’ve tested so many times I thought I had it down pat... then I noticed this. I’ve been shorting my Ca-2 by 2 drops. Just figured I’d pass it along.

Yea I’ve also noticed that some test still say 8 and some say 10. I ran test to see if there’s a difference but got the same results. There’s a next thread about it don’t remember the name of the thread but Randy said that it should not make a big difference in that thread.

That step raises the pH to precipitate magnesium hydroxide and prevent magnesium from getting counted. As long as the pH gets high enough to take out the magnesium and not so much that you take out the calcium, the amount is not critical.

I noticed that change several months, might even have been a year ago. The MAG kit changed also. Used to be first bottle 5 drops, shake for 10 seconds, then a spoon full, and shake for 30 seconds(I think it was something like that). Now they want you to add both A and B, then shake for 10 seconds.

I always read the instructions now when I get a new kit.

you need a minimum of 5 drops but to be sure you have enough they say 8 or 10, it doesn't matter, that's why the dropper bottle isn't very accurate.

My new kit has the 10 drops listed. My new kit came with a newer instuction sheet with colored pictures and everything...lol

I been tested with 8 drop and my cal at 400 to 420 this morning test with 10 on the new kit and it at 580.

For those interested, swirl a second or two after each drop of Ca-2. You should notice that at about 5 drops the solution turns pink. That is, the lowest pH required for the test to perform has been attained (but borderline/critical). I highly advise to use 10 drops and fully ignore the dropsize.

not quite sure what you mean?
The instructions are clear, so what are you getting at?

The manufacturer clearly recommends 10 drops, yet your saying 5 is fine, or 8 or 10.

Not at all, I pointed out that it doesn't matter if you use 8 drops or 10 as per different instructions. Can you show me where i stated 5 drops is fine please?
I said you need a minimum 5 drops funnily enough just the same as Habib said.
But to be sure, use 8 or 10 drops.

Pretty sure I quoted above where you said 5 is all thats needed, but to make sure use 8 or 10.

If the instructions say to use 10, then you clearly need 10. Even habib said to use 10, although 5 is all thats really needed, but to use 10 to make sure.

If the instructions say to use 10, why are we even debating this?

I believe the 5 drops are for the low res. test. 8/10 are for the high res version.

For what it's worth, I send in icp test every few months. As a general practice to both double check myself as the kit I'm using, I test calcium and magnesium at the same time I collect the icp sample. That was I can compare with the icp results. I use salifert and use 10 drops, and always test within 5-10 ppt of the icp results.
