Salt dust, deposits

Hello everyone,

I’ve had my tank about a year now and I’ve noticed salt deposits on the wall behind it which I expected however salt is everywhere else in the condo. Fine deposits on glass and surfaces like dust. (I’m positive it’s not dust) has anyone had this experience and how could I fix this.

I have a 30G tall tank with a glass lid, HOB Tidal 75 filter..

Are you seeing salt crusts around the tank edges itself?
Are you finding that you need to top up the tank often to offset evaporation?

Seawater can certainly aerosolize and travel around a room. Years ago, when I had multiple tanks in my bedroom, I had metal items in the room corrode, and electronic devices didn't last as long.

You need to be careful about how you control this though - A lot of people reduce aeration to try and control salt spray, but there is a reason why you need to aerate a tank, and by cutting that down, you can actually starve the animals for oxygen, or build up levels of carbon dioxide.

You mentioned that the tank has a glass lid. That should be reducing this salt dust to a high degree, but can also cause low oxygen issues if the tank is sealed off too tightly.
