My parameters kept going up and I had done a big water change to deal with some re shaping and cleaning.
Since then cal and mag are off the chart on my test :(
Im like woo what do. Ive waited a couple weeks and nothing has changed
So would finding a lower salt help even this out. Usualy fritz is good to me but maybe ny tank has matured enough im seeing the issues other have spoken about. What yall think I should do

Also nothing to do with the parameters but I did have my light off for week do to overheating
So corals aint hapoy but I dont think its do to the cal and mag
They were fine the weeks before tbh most extension ive seen in a min
Alk is 6.9 I like it 6.5 to 7 so its been fine and same with nutrients all fine
Salinity 1.025

1). Verify your tests independently (your salinity, your Ca, your Mg and your Alkalinity) with different tests.
2). It would be helpful to know what 'off the charts' means (i.e. your actual levels)
3). Did you mix your salt bucket/bag before mixing your water (sometimes things settle)
4). Have you tried measuring your parameters in freshly mixed water (not in your tank) to see if perhaps you got a bad batch of salt?
5). What brand of salt are you using now?

To answer the question - I like Brightwell Neomarine. It mixes well, to proper levels consistently to my experience.

Salt mixes to
1450 plus mag
Cal is like 500
Alk was 7.5

My tank is at
500+cal cant read higher
Mag is 1500+ cant read higher
Alk is 6.9 its fine

I mix water day before or weeks and leave it in jugs. This batch was a few days sitting in a jug being kept a temp
I check salinity before adding

Fritz salt
It always mixes a bit lower
But this box has been off I think or its been like this always and I never noticed

Yea im pretty protective off my baby so im very caught off guard this skipped by me
I do test every other day and I did notice it going up but I assumed water change no buggy
Then is skyrockets the 3rd or 4th day and since then 3 or 4 weeks ago it hasnt gone down

It could have been a bad batch of salt. Or a testing problem. What doesnt make sense is that your Alkalinity is 'fine'. Have you double checked all of your tests with other testing methods - including your salinity. How do you test your parameters and salinity?

I use salifert for all my test kits
I have a refractometer from Amazon
I have also wondered if my test kits are bad
Im tossed cause they are brand new just got all 8 kits new and cal and mag do see weird and odd when I use them

I have only used these test kits to see
I may buy a new cal just cause I will use it and see if it has a proper reading maybe. And a red sea one

Good luck. I would stop testing so much - just watch the tank. Let it go for a while. Alkalinity will be the most important. Maybe check it once/week

Nothing was used up because you had your lights off.

No photosynthesis = no growth = no alkalinity, calcium, or magnesium used.

Your salt is mixing higher then you expected, and when you did a WC, it elevated your levels even higher. Rinse, repeat a couple times, and it explains how your levels got high.

With no growth, nothing is using up elements, and your adding to them by doing a WC.

With your lights on now, just keep measuring, and you'll start to see your levels drop provided no more WC's are done with this salt.

I use both Fritz Blue and Redline, on my 18th case, 2 years.
They mix perfectly for me every time, fast and clear in hours, and when I test, very consistent. I never heat my water for changes, this can create cloudy water, and over mixing as well.
4 hours fast mix, no heat, then one final short mix before use.

Fritz blue chimes in at 8dkh and redline at 10.5dkh
Magnesium for both is 1420ppm.
CA for both is virtually the same, 440ppm for blue, 465ppm for red.

I have yet to find anything bad about this salt.
Very available, great price. IMM. Made in the USA. I like that. 30E3AC5F-47CF-436F-8CD8-D23C222854C8.jpeg

Might have to have a look at the blue. Never really looked into what they mixed up to. I run my ALk around 7.2 to 7.5, so a 10G WC wouldn't be that big of a deal. At $63.00(cheapest I'm seeing on the net right now. Does it go on sale occasionally like IO down to like $34 a box?) a 200G box it's still way more then IO, but it could be a viable option.

Not that I'm not happy with IO, but having to dump acid in every batch is another process I could do without.
