Austin (my non-reefing spouse) has been suggesting an aquarium upgrade to a 200g innovative marine peninsula for the last 6 months… I’ve been rolling my eyes at this suggestion for a while, but lately his reasonings are starting to make more sense.

Ever since starting the new job, I’ve really been struggling to keep up the maintenance on all 3 of our systems. I can keep one, maybe two going ok…but one is always suffering for one reason or another. I’m starting to see his argument for combining the three systems into one. Plus his plan involves making room for a system for automatic water changes. Right now I don’t really have the space to make that happen, but a water storage container could go into the corner where the CADE is and there is already piping thru the wall on that side to run a drain outside.

I have enough equipment spread across the three systems we could just about automate everything if I combined all the apex gear and smart switches.

Plus where he wants to put the Peninsula would divide off the living room from the dining room, and I’ve had to turn the dining room into a home office so it kind of looks like a *********** and the other tanks really take up a lot of room in the living room that it would be nice to get back now that we have additional kids living at home.

Now for the Cons; the CADE has just passed the 1 year mark and is really taking off and stable. Coral is doing well and the tank is covered in coralline and looks great. The BTA tank is coasting well and could use work but passed all the ugly phases and is fairly low maintenance for the most part. The 150 is a disaster and probably meds a rip clean but I’m dreading breaking it down. Do I really want to throw a wrench into the tanks that are finally seeing success??

Plus how to finance a completely unnecessary expense? I mean I’ll admit I’ve been saving for a sports car for a very long time and my two recent back to back right foot surgeries with one more a possibility mean the reality of me being able to drive a manual transmission ever again are getting slim…… but is a tank the most reasonable use of those funds if I decide to throw away my car dream….

Gotta drive the kids to Orlando today and drop them off at the airport. They are flying to Syracuse today to spend a week with the grandparents in Oswego.

I'm slightly jealous. It's supposed to reach close to 100 degrees here this week and theyre going to be hanging out on the shore of lake Ontario.....

Anyway, since I gotta drive to Orlando anyway, going to go wander around WWC and TSA

Two of the oldest kids (technically adults, but like only barely) are discussing moving to New York before the end of the year. We’ve known this was a possibility for a while, and more likely now that the DIL finished her degree.

I am very torn between being sad to see them go, and being happy to see them start their own adult lives.

They have other family there in the area and I understand their reasons, but still.

Having said that, I’m also already contemplating how much aquarium space I can get out of their room once they’re gone…. Is it bad taste to go ahead and start measuring their room?

Let the measuring commence!
