My sand shifting starfish which I have had for 3 weeks has been gone for 10 days. No sign of him at all. I think he is dead, and my question is what will a dead starfish do to my tank if it is left in the sandbed. He must be buried. Will it nuke my tank? What do I look for as far as levels go (do I just look at ammo). Is it worth going thur the sandbed to try and find it? He was ab out 4 inches across from leg to leg

Please let me know I have some free time today to do the work needed.

IMHO, if he died ‘under’ the sand, he will disintegrate slowly enough that it shouldn’t be a problem (as long as we’re not talking about a very small nano tank); then again, if you have a long pair of tongs and some time on your hands, you could go poking around a bit.

it is a 75 gallon tank. and i have noticed a little ammo spike to . 1 and it did get to .2 for a brief time. just guessing this is from the starfish, h cause i stirred up the sand a little looking for him
