Sand sifting star

I’ve had this star for 9 months. First time seeing it do this. Is this normal? Its been like this for about five minutes and counting.

Interesting. It looks like when some of the more predatory stars take posture like they are trying to capture fish.

In general, I wouldn't keep one of these stars unless the sand bed is quite mature and large, otherwise they eventually deplete their food source and slowly starve.

I am wondering if this is some last-ditch effort to try to capture something it can eat. 🤔

Tagging along to see if anyone has seen this before.

Tanks been up for about a year. So i know that not a mature tank yet. Size 90gal. Its back to burying in the sand bed.
