I've got a neon dottyback who insists on moving sand from one corner of his tank to another; that's okay except that he spits most of it out during his journey and, unfortunately, it lands on several acans growing along his path. I carefully blow off the sand regularly and try to avoid stressing the corals thinking this might be sufficient; however today I noticed one acan that seems to have lost a polyp or two, possibly from the effect of sand buildup.

Anyone else had this happen? Don't think there is much I can do other than a radical reconfiguration of corals in the tank. All ideas welcomed.

BTW, water parameters are good and other corals are doing well.

I've kept a few acans but never had good luck getting them to prosper. I bought one of those rock mimicking frag plugs that holds about 6, I placed my acan frags in there and what seems like over night the look 100% better. I have noticeable polyp extension now that I've never had. My conch were constantly knocking them over and covering them with sand before the rack.

I've been keeping acans a long time. I don't think it really bothers them. I don't even blow the sand off. I'm assuming you are referring to lords.
