I have been building/repairing tanks for a long time.
I have never run into this situation: I am putting a new front on a rimless tank. The bottom of the tank on has it's edges sanded with about 400 grit sandpaper it appears. The sides wrap the bottom and none of the other edges are sanded. They are all polished.
The sides are 3/8" and the bottom is 1/2".
I imagine this is to promote adhesion.
I can tell you, however, it was a pain to make sure that all the old silicone was off of it. LOL.
(Yes, I know to make sure the thing is surgically clean and to reseal the whole inside.)
If you have actual experience with the pros/cons of this, please chime in.
If it's worth the effort to promote better adhesion, I may just go ahead and wet sand the contact edges of the sides.
