Save the Anemone!

I’m in dire need of help. I’ve had 2 anemone in my tank and for the life of me, I can’t figure out the lighting. I’ve got one that has moved several times towards the light and I’ve got another that has moved away from the light. I have two large windows in the room where the tank is so there’s a fair bit of ambient light coming through, but I’ve got blackout curtains that I try to control the volume of light. Can anyone make any suggestions, please?

Can you tell us the history of the tank, how old it is, how it's setup, and what your current water parameters are? A pic of the system as well as the anemones would help too

Yes totally agree. Like what's your parameters? Type of lighting? Lighting schedule also what you really have in the tank and pictures of nems I really need to see a picture of it to to really see what's going on

My tank is about two years old. I started out with just fish but gravitated towards the eliminate as well as some other live coral. I keep my temperature around 72°., I changed my water out about every 10 days, it’s a 40 gallon tank and I usually do 7 1/2 gallons.

You probably should get those fake plants and objects like the decor out of your tank cuz it's not really natural. I mean that could be leaching stuff into your water that you don't know about. That could be messing up the anemones because I don't think they're really made for salt water. They're kind of more made for fresh water but still I wouldn't use that if I were you

I could also see that little nem right there I'm pretty sure. Is that a nem it looks like it's touching another piece of coral which it could be stinging. I would definitely try to move that or move the coral move the coral

So the little nem is actually moving. I didn’t place him there, he’s moved all over the tank. As for the lighting, I really don’t know what is appropriate. I’m currently using a Kessil with low brightness and mod Blu effect. As I said, I’ve got two windows in the front that draw a lot of ambient light. I can block that light out during the day as I’ve got blackout curtains on both of them.

If that thing in the picture is your anemone , the white thing with short tentacles I’d say it looks likes it’s a bleached anemone. So you’re first going to have to really focus on getting proper light and flow since it keeps moving around it either doesn’t like how much light it’s getting or the flow. Also I’d suggest target feeding your anemone so it can start to recover from it being bleached and also sometimes if it continues to get food in a certain spot, sometimes they don’t move because they know they’ll continue to get food in that certain spot.

Do you have access to a par meter? I gotta start here since it’s crucial to know what your light is putting out.

I’ve found all my anemones like very intense par. Check out my build thread and you’ll see the anemone invasion I have going on. I was amazed when these anemones wanted to stay up higher on the rocks. At the top of most of these rocks is 350+ par and some anemones are sitting at 650par. They have all been there for a while and won’t move so I know they are happy. Now 10 or so anemones are sitting mid way/ down towards the bottom of the sand and are all happy there too.

I’m wondering if it’s not enough light and possibly a water parameters issue?
