Also, this is another scoly gotten at almost the exact same time, but a different vendor, same size, and was next to the bleeding apple (that I tossed today), and is doing fantastic.

Dang! This is the "hidden cost" of unitary polyp corals....it's one polyp and done. No backups!

Hi @smitten with ocean life thanks for the tag! I will step forward and disclose that I am the provider of the plate, along with a orangish Scoly, and a few other things. The bleeding apple Scoly was not from me.

With torches, new and existing, doing fine, Scoly doing fine, and plates doing fine, it was odd to me that one plate and one Scoly would be so rough, while others of the same species are unaffected.

The common denominator - the small plate and bleeding apple Scoly, both were recent additions. I feel highly that a fish got curious and started nipping, but I can also see it being related to the large leather coral that has abilities to release toxins

If I remember my convo with Bryon correctly, the plate has improved while the apple Scoly declined. The Scoly that I sent with the plate is doing well, along with the other LPS corals

Usually in isolated incidents like this it’s a matter of item placement or nipping from a curious fish

Good luck. I’ve had plates showing skeleton, and able to make a full recovery once it settles in. Not so much for scoly.

I would suggest a good water change to reset the system. If running carbon or GFO, I would limit use small quantities so it slowly ramps down.

As far as GFO goes, whatever I read previously seems to be wrong, and I should be using 1.5 cups or so of high capacity GFO for my approximately 210 gallon system.

As it is now I've temporarily stopped GFO completely. I'm curious if my over dosing of GFO is contributing to the film algae on the glass and maybe the issues with the insanity plate and the bleeding apple scoly...

So I'm going to give that a few days... previously I was cleaning glass about every 5 days, but lately Its been every other day.

Guessing, but I have BRS's large reactor, likely 3 cups.

So the plate is trying, its been dipped in an iodine dip, and a Coral Infection Eleminator dip.

I think the issue now is it has algae growing on it, maybe from my new rock, I don't know, but I don't think it can recover with algae on it, and I don't know what to do about it.

I've yet to have any luck with H2o2 dips, but I can certainly try that, or?!
