I was just sat gazing into my little reef and I noticed this with my scolly!!

ALL water pariments are fine salinity was slightly low however the water change has raised it again to where it needs to be. Advice please :)

In my tank I have

1 filefish
1 scopez tang
1 lined wrasse
3 clownfish
1 watchman goby
1 starry blenny
Cleaner shrimp
Dozen crabs/snails
1 giant red hermit

Probably should've posted this in the LPS care section :) I have a Wellso that was in pretty rough shape when I got it and it had similar issues. Just keep the tank stable and provide an occasional feeding. It should be fine.

It looks like old tissue recession. It's dark colored (or appears dark in the picture) so its likely healed and shouldn't continue spreading add long as parameters are maintained in acceptable levels.

If you saw this and it was white, that would be recent tissue recession and would be more of a concern. Its not uncommon for open brains of all kinds to come in with similar old damage.

It is completely purple Lab, so this is normal and nothing to worry about? sorry bad quality of picture will try get another now for the thread.

Yeah, if that skeleton is purple there, then it's old news and should be fine. I wouldn't worry at all.

Keep an eye on it, then. Files commonly will nip meaty corals

Once they start they will aways do it , time to choose......file fish or Scoly
I know what I would choose ...Scoly all day everyday lol
I had to remove a blue Tang that was picking at LPS , they get a taste for them

+1 once it has a taste for coral it won't stop unfortunately

Should recover fine. However, if you have a fish picking, they never stop. I got rid of a copperband due to eating my lps after 1.5 yrs. Bummer!

If it keeps receding a little superglue will stop it. Id dump that filefish as well.

Right I've been out and brought like a suitable container to put the scolly in a form of jail inside the tank to save it.... what would be my next step ???

This is my scolly a&e.... what can I do next? he won't get bothered in here which gives me enough time to find a new home for the stupid filefish! But if no home by then my big tank should of cycled so he can go in there in!

So should I increase the scollys feeds?
should I just leave the tissue alone ? as you can see he is still very green!
I feel at this point the main thing to do first is get him to feed if im not mistaken??

Looks like they could use a dip in an iodine solution (Lugols to help with any possible infection). Keep it under medium light and light flow, feed it reef roids or similar for a bit (broadcast) daily. Then I would feed it once to twice a week at most. I never feed mine much once fully recovered. Give it time and hope that filefish did not do too much damage. Good luck!!!!

I've currently just popped him in a dip before reading this so will take him out in 10 mins pop him back in the tank. Will do as you've said thank you I just hope he recovers ! Dam file fish But at least he can't be got at now

Feed it, do so every day for a few weeks if it will eat. Keep the par around 100 - give or take. Test your water - PO4 will do the most damage unless your Ph is lower than 7.7 or so. If it is get it up to 8+. Of course C/A/M needs to be tested but I'm assuming that's under control.
