Scoly question

My scoly I would say gets a bit more light and flow then prescribed for it. It is fine and eats good for the 2 months if had it. Wondering does it not open and expose feeding tentcles fully at night do to increased flow and light durring day? Or am I over thinking it. It looks amazing and in good health. Just wondering

I believe they are not out during the day as they are able to photosynthesize which provides much more energy and that organisms can better see the tenticles and avoid them. I dont know if the second part is true or not but it is my guess. It could be that what they catch with them is not as active or floating around as much in the day.

Is the room the tank is in pitch black? I find if I have ambient light on the tentacles don’t come out until the room is completely dark, tv off, hall light off. Maybe the flow has a big role to play, mine is in medium low flow, enough for the tentacles to blow around at night and catch food. I also spot feed it 3x a week with pe mysis, hakari mysis, or Lrs reef frenzy.

I use the hall light after it’s been off for about an hour or two. It’s just enough light to see what I’m doing sort of, but not bright enough to make the corals start to close up.

I feed my scoly once a week during daytime. I would turn off the power heads, then disperse some

oyster eggs & reef roids near it. Within a minute, it would open and the tentacles come out looking for food. Then I give it Larry's Reef Frenzy after I feed the cleaner shrimp and the fishes. Otherwise, they would steal food from the scoly. As you can see in the pic, the mouth bends over to eat.

Yeah 100 pitch black. I think it was getting to much light and flow. I moved and and it seems happier and tentcles more active at night on moon light. It was probly fine were it is just want it in the best I can have it. I'll post pics tommarow for a better idea of the befor after location.

I just realized I misread the question my bad

I have had mine about two weeks. He almost instantly started losing some tissue and has not opened his but mouth once like a 1/4”. I tried feeding him that time and nothing happened. I put food on top of him during the day. Just now at 2am in pitch black. Nothing! Everything else in the tank is doing amazing except that one coral. No clue what to do. I put poly-booster in about 15 minutes before I feed and it does nothing too.

I just realized I misread the question my bad

No worries still good to know. I have herd, also feeding small amounts every other day is better then a larg amounts once a week for them better for digestion since they like to eat.
