Where in the world you garden changes the correct answer completely. City, desert, forest, elevation, USDA cold zone (the map translates to a large part of the world, it's like metric, :- )), etc.
It's the gardening version of "What are your current tank parameters?".
General location was something normally placed in your signature file as a common courtesy for those who are familiar with using it.
Using it as my email address, and screen name, made it even easier.
Most of the users were USA based. Visiting Norfolk, England (lol, as well as Suffolk) is on my bucket list.
