I'm always fascinated by people's screen names and just what they might mean or what are the related to or how did they come up with that name. Anybody care to share their story?

My real first name is Ron and I liked the fact that I could put that out there. Then Reefman has an alliteration (I think that's the word) so it's the two 'R's' together that sound good and obviously Reefman tells you what I'm into. I've been using it here and other forums for about 15 years now. I've even had people ask if that was my real last name!

Mine was just my email which is my name and one of my professional degrees. I didn’t know about all these screen name options..haha

I have no idea how mine popped into my head, but it definitely seemed appropriate to the hobby, and had its literal meaning tied to the ocean (although you would want one as far away from a reef as possible!). I was actually surprised nobody else had it...probably because it's not as cool as I seem to think it is?

When I logged in to the internet for the first time in 1991 Jay (my name) 1-7 were taken on Netcom my first net provider so I became Jay8...I have used the name ever since on other forums and anywhere I make a new account. Somehow it evolved to jeight :)

I'm a grain farmer. Before the dust bowl, the farmers had a hard time plowing up the native grass root mass in the late 1800's to plant a crop with horses or oxen. They were called "sod busters". Its now generic slang for a farmer.

I think it's cool and I understand your feeling about a super tanker near a reef. I had a small sailboat and I liked the rhyme of Reef Thief so much I wanted to name the boat that. I wasn't 'stealing' from the reef, but legally collecting with a license. But my wife asked,"What do you think the FWC (Florida Wildlife Commission) rangers will think?" So I switched to 'The Leaky Cauldron' from Harry Potter.

BTW, I love your avatar!

I didn't pick my screen name.....Our local fish club picked it for me. My adult son first started in saltwater and joined a local club. He invited me to a meeting, and his screen name was OneFishTwoFish. I think you see where I’m going with this. When I showed up, the host of the meeting said, “You must be RedFishBlueFish.” And so I was!

I was 20, it seemed like a good name at the time. Now that I am in my 30’s I’m not a big fan of it, I think it comes off as haughty. It’s too late to change now. For the first year or two I had club members calling me by my screen name because they couldn’t remember or pronounce my real name lol.

In my teen's my now brother in law started calling me homey, no one liked that so my friends started calling me Homer(ala homer simpson). The 14 and 75 is the day and year of my birth. It was an easy screen name to remember. I have been homer1475 since the early 90's on AOL dialup.

My house is on Suncrest Lane, and I think I have the only reef tank on this street.

When I was at the beach with my wife over the weekend, we drove past a street called Surfcrest and I jokingly told her we should buy a beach house there, then in my mind I was thinking how that would impact my screen name. :)
