Not sure if there are any DIY models. Oceans motions makes a more reliable version. Most SCWD's work for a couple of years though. Odd yours petered out so quick.

I believe I saw a DIY one years ago but I think it was pretty complicated to make. I have had pretty good luck with the smaller ones as long as I kept them clean. I have forgot to clean them before and they got clogged up but usually a cleaning would fix them. I did manage to break a couple by blowing air from my compressor into them and blown the impeller apart. You would think I would learn after the first one. :( I bought a 1" one and it got calcium buildup in the gears and quit working. I cleaned it out and it would work but after a few days I would have to take it apart and start it turning again. I finally gave up on them and bought a pair of MP40s which I'm very happy with so far. I hated paying that much for them though. :(

BTW, Tina, this is a SCWD 3iQ Ventures

Yeah, it's a great idea if reliability was better.

I agree with Mike that, these days, powerheads are so much better than they used to be that you are better off using controlable Vortecs or Tunzes than doing a CL.
