Sea urchins

Are sea urchins good with beginners
Well, that depends. They are not particularly difficult to care for as long as certain needs are met. They are herbivores and will need a mature tank where they can find algae to eat from the rocks, so you need to have plenty of live rock for them to graze on. Some like the Tuxedo urchin stay at about 2-3” and suited for any tank, I would say, over 20 gallons.
They do have a tendency to knock over corals and steal to wear on their spines to be less noticeable to pedators.

You will also need to take care when your hands are in the tank since their needles are sharp.

I just had my tuxedo urchin pass away after well over 3 years. I replaced it with two smaller ones, excellent cuc. I got the first one about 6 months after I set the tank up.
