Seachem 75gal

Hey yall just curious how inefficient or if it would be okay, to use TWO 75 gallon SEACHEM HOB filters for my new 75 gallon fish tank.

I currently have had a seachem 50 gal HOB filter on my 40 gallon tank and it has been running smoothly for 3 years.

Thoughts about running 2 Seachem HOB 75 filters on my new setup?


I plan for 1 yellow and 1 Kole tang.

And 1 dog puffer that’s a baby and will REHOME eventually.

Plus 3-4 Wrasses and a small school of chromis

Personally I feel its redundant, it does not provide "more" filtration, you'll just have 2 mechanical filters on your tank.

I would suggest to consider a protein skimmer instead which IMO is much more beneficial than a hob filter.

IMO....I would do either a canister, OR 1 Aquaclear 110.....(and any cheap skimmer)....

Now I can see additional applications for having 2. Like running a refugium in the second one. Seen people do that. If your just wanting it for additional basic filtration. Nah. But if you have more DIY plans for it. Sure I'd probably do 2x 55 hobs instead of 2x 75 hobs.

They only output 350GPH per hour.....with liverock in tank, thats not alot of flow created. With two, you can as mentioned use the second one for other types of media, but, also increase flow and not real need for internal wavemakers

I'm a big fan of the Hagen/AquaClear HOB filters, I much prefer them over the SeaChem Tidal's. There are lots of mods and media baskets for these filter that can make them more efficient for a saltwater tank.

so the only plus would be I get to have more space to structure and setup my filtration process. Having a second one provides no additional benefit to the well being of the tank. As long as I am fine with the one filter. .

I TRIED TIDALS< IMO AQUACLEAR IS far superior for the following reasons . You have more media space with 110 aquaclears. More bang for buck. You get biomedia plus large foam block and chemical media with aquaclear, JUST paucity of matrix with TIDAL .You can use aquaclears like I have for 20 plus years in aquaterrariums and reptile tanks with low water levels, TRY that with TIDALS. TErrible grinding Noise as water levels drop. You can add a surface skimmer to aquaclears as added addition. Finally, everyone overhyped the tidals as pump in tank but PRIOR TO THAT PEOPLE WERE MAKING A BIG DEAL about added heat to tank with submersible pumps, FINALLY you can add a refugium to aquaclears easily , try that with Tidals. THE AQUACLEAR IMO IS FAR SUPERIOR IMO and Have used them on Multiple setups over 20 years without a single failure!

I'll have to agree with this. Granted I think without making any modifications. I prefer seachem. But with mods, aquaclear wins hands down.

I have a Seachem on a QT tank and I love it! Great filter. I also have a 30+ year old smaller Aquaclear running like a champ on a FW tank. Love em both!

AquaClear for the win lol!

InTank makes media baskets for those filters too.
