Im going to buy a used DC pump, I was reading up on pumps yesterday when I saw this "Reeflo pumps seals should be replaced anually".

This was not a piece of maintenance I have heard of before, do all pumps need their seals replaces now and then? What exactly is this process?

Ty!

ReeFlo Pump pumps use an AC motor connected to a pump housing. There is a seal at the point where the AC motor drive shaft connects to the water pump housing. This seal is a piece of rubber with a piece spring helping to hold the shape. As the pump turns the shaft runs on the rubber this wears the rubber down. Water is always looking for ways to get out. So as the seal wears it will give water a way to leak out.

Dc pumps in general are made to be under water so a leaking seal is not a major concern do to that design issue.
