Just trying to think through the best way to plumb a UV into a new system

Looking at the G2 Red Sea reefers which now have 2 separate return lines

That got me thinking — could I place a second return pump in the skimmer chamber that feeds the UV sterilizer?

The return pump chamber is pretty small so 2x return pumps would be a tight fit anyway — if I moved the second return pump to the skimmer chamber that would be a much better fit, and allow me to use less pumps as a separate UV pump would not be required.

Any big concerns I’m overlooking? Diagram I drew of overhead view of sump — actual website view of sump below for ref.

You could but you would have to return it back to the skimmer chamber (or at least not into the return chamber).

Can't run the UV on the return line or off a manifold?

I run mine from my skimmer (2nd chamber) back to my refugium (1st chamber).

Edited my post to clarify - You just have to return it upstream of the return chamber. Not into the return chamber.

@Potatohead just be clear the second return pump would flow directly into the display (both returns in diagram go direct to display)

I suppose it could work but if for some reason your drains ever fail you are going to pump your entire sump into the display, likely causing a flood, and running the skimmer dry. I don't see the advantage to just putting both pumps in the return chamber, other than it's a tight fit but it should be doable.

Or just buy one, reliable return pump.
