Hi all,

My derasa was growing nicely for a year, but since about a week it was opening up properly. I checked today and i can see all the way through to the opening on the under side. Feel like a stupid question, but i guess a parasite has been eating it and its beyond salvation right?

Thanks

Your description does not sound good. Pics may help.
It sounds to me like you are looking through the intake siphon and seeing through to the bottom shell opening and seeing the sand or rock below? This doesnt always mean a predator it could be but if the clam was not receiving enough light they can slowly starve, and the mantel is usually one of the last things to show the effects of starvation. Most dont notice it until the mantel starts to shrink or detach.

This is indeed the situation. That’s sad as i couldve prevented this had i observed it earlier… is there any hope for survival? Ive placed it to a higher light area. IMG_1400.jpeg
