Senior project ideas

my senior project is coming up after the summer so I only have a year left to come up with an idea. I am a Computer Science student so it has to do with coding/programming but I have no idea what i want to do because I was going to switch majors and didn't plan to make it this far. Any one have ideas? I was thinking on mixing reef related topics/ideas into the mix since that's a passion/enjoyment that I have, but that is the furthers of my thought. Thanks

I'd love to see a tool that provides analysis of reef and equipment progression. For example, track consumption of alk/calc to make recommendations for when you need to test again and when you are likely to need to start dosing more. Similarly, track things like life expectancy of equipment based on usage or when a pump needs to be cleaned based on power draw changes.

How about a DIY par meter or some such? Something that could be easily duplicated by others. Maybe you could build it around a raspberry pi?

Do an all in one 5 gallon pico reef that is fully automated. I.e measure 4 major parameters, alerts when one goes out of range, ato, automatic feeding, automatic dosing, automatic on and off of lights, etc.

The challenge here is it needs to be all in one including all the electronics in the top, no secondary housing for all the electronics. So build a custom circuit board, have to build the enclosure, design interfaces for pumps, lights, etc. And it’s obviously coding because you’d have to use a micro controller or raspberry pie. If you really wanted to step up the challenge, add a web interface.

This is what i would do anyway.

If you wanted to help everyone here, build a low cost nitrate and/phosphate meter. Bonus points if you get it to interface with APEX.

Automation and coding is the go to.
From lighting to apex copies. Po, arduino etc etc. control pumps lights etc and do a pico version.

You could build one from a lego robot kits.

Thanks everyone. I've narrowed it down from a aio controlled nano or an American Sign language to English translator/camera. Thanks for your help as I try to narrow down my choices.

Edit: The help is nice as I went from "i'm not graduating from here" to graduating early

This is what I was thinking, but I was talking to a fellow reefer via. snapchat and he was telling me about a project he did with photo manipulation. While he was not (and did not) trying to discourage me, he was just giving me his experiences in the matter

I was mechanical engineering major in undergrad. I did a senior project on automation in manufacturing and I’ve worked in that industry my entire professional career. My advice to you is keep doing what you are doing to get ideas, but ultimately you should pick a project in an area that you could see yourself working.

I did a lot of recruiting in the past, and senior projects were always a big selling point. So if you do a senior project in new age cyber security encryption but have absolutely no desire to work with encryption for a career - then you will graduate, but the project isn’t helping you as much as it could.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input and that's why I'm looking at the translator. I was go to drop out and go for a degree in interpreting but since I'm 80% I talked to my guidance counselor and he helped me with a plan to graduate early
