Setting up a new FW nano. Can I use a small rock from the refugium of my reef tank for cycling?

This tank is for my grand daughter, so hoping to speed up cycle. What do you think?
I don't know anything about freshwater tanks. I have it set up but too much ammonia (1.0) so not cycled obviously.
I just put in the rock from my refugium today, hope I didn't it screw up. Appreciate any help, thank you.
