Setting up a skimmer I'm such a noob lol

Heya Folks Happy Sunday Funday lol

So Mr Procrastinator here hasn't cleaned his skimmer in the few weeks I've had it running ( OMG BOKE ) that stinks to high heaven.

I am wondering what's the best way to have it set it seems like there was some gunk in the main tube before the collection tray. just not sure if I run it with the water higher in the main tube or lower and have the bubbles/foamfromhell work it's way up to the collection section?

any help would be great
skimmer is Octo classic 110-S

A film will coat the inside of the skimmer if thats waht you are asking

7 to 8 inches is what they recommend as a start

Take it in two steps. First, adjust your air intake so that you build a stable foam head. Then, adjust your water height in your tube so that you collect the foam.
