Hello R2R! My name is Sasha. Long time lurker, first time poster. I am conducting a bit of an experiment today. I had a leftover guppy fry separator and realized it could make the *perfect* in-tank circular flow for rearing baby sexy shrimp if I added a bubbler, and I just so happen to have had a sexy shrimp mother who was overflowing with fry. I dropped her into my little invention, let her release the larvae (which she did right away! I got lucky with the timing), removed her carefully, and now have maybe a thousand little babies spinning around happily. 😃

I want to document this because if I can successfully raise these fry until the larvae settle, this could be a real game changer for breeding sexy shrimp, and I want to share my success with the community IF this does actually work. So I will be adding to this post or thread or whatever I've just made as time goes by. I have a brine shrimp hatchery on the way to make live food, but for now frozen baby brine shrimp will have to do.
What are your thoughts? I'm excited!!

Congratulations - it would be great if you could upload a YouTube video as many cannot see yours.

they eat forensic baby brine shrimp
That’s awesome, I thought you’d have to do live rotifers or something

This is amazing!!

I have a cleaner shrimp who is preggo right now for the first time in my tank.... I want to sooo bad try to do this but I won't have enough time to clean a 10 gla tank I have and get it cycled or anything by the time it lays them. Plus would it stress it out by swapping tanks for that dropping of them? Or will he/she drop them as soon as I try to catch or do catch it?

Maybe I will follow along and the next time they are preggo I will try it out.... unless some freaky way a few of them make it out alive (not likely with my 6 line wrasse scooting around lol).

Thanks

Hi everyone! a bit of an update

over the past few days i noticed less and less babies floating around. I was wondering where they could possibly have gone… until i noticed a little baby amphipod snuck his way into the chamber somehow. I have NO idea how it got in but it must have been feasting on my baby sexies cause as of today, i don’t think i see any suspended in the water.

I am going to try again! one of my adults are carrying lots and lots of eggs and this time i’m going to be a lot more careful with water changes since i think that also could have contributed to baby loss.
BUT FIRST
i’m going to keep feeding the chamber and see what grows. will it be the baby amphipod that prevails? or perhaps my eyes are failing me and i do have some sexy larvae left… 🤔 I think i might see one guy in there but im not sure. will report back after a trip to lenscrafters

I’m a little disappointed that round 1 of my sexy shrimp breeding chamber idea seems to have been a failure, but i’ll keep at it until something works out.
stay tuned 😎

I dont count it as a failure as much as it is a learning experience.... from what i understand, breeding these buggers is fairly difficult. So in my opinion if you get one or more to adulthood... thats an amazing success, the rest is all an attempt at playing god.
