Ok so I’m looking at getting the Shark Protein Skimmer 300 but don’t know how well it will fit on a rimed tank. I know that the Tunze skimmers have extra magnets so that it will fit a rimed tank. But would like a good HOB skimmer. Any thoughts?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

It looks like it just attaches to the glass with a magnet, I don't think it would be any problem on a rimmed tank.

I have no first hand knowledge of that skimmer, but I'm kind of skeptical as to how god it is. I think you might be able to do better for the money, and I know there's members here that could recommend something if you're interested.

Here's one thread here about that skimmer:

Good luck!

I'm getting this one as I don't have much room behind my tank. As far as a rimmed tank goes, I take a torch and heat up a knife and remove as much rim as I need. I had to do this to get my Red Sea light to fit.

Can you post a link to the skimmer you're looking at?
