Shark tank idea

Hi! I wanted to get an opinion on my next project. I want to raise a zebra shark egg( stegostoma fasciatum). I want to start it out in a 55g and once it outgrows that move it into a swimming pool or pond of some sort and upgrade as needed. I have some questions. Whats the best sand to use? Do sharks need any supplements? Other then frozen food like shrimp and squid what else should I have to get the shark to eat? Should I try to raise a different type of shark instead? Never kept a shark before and I plan on doing more research. Thank you

I have wanted a shark all my life, but I'm not really a fan of sharks in home aquaria unless you can truly provide them with the space they need

Yea I plan to do massive ponds and sacrifice some of the aesthetic look

While a large pond would work, many get the wrong tanks as rounded edge is better than square tank and large circular is popular with sharks and rays. Regarding ponds, you will notice many public aquaria utilize this as the holding tanks/ petting tanks
1,000 gal minimum size is highly suggested and water quality is of high importance as they are messy housekeppers

Yea I plan on 1000+ gallons. Idk if anyone has experience with using pools to raise sharks. I'll probably diy the filtration and buy a large skimmer

I would STRONGLY urge you not to try that species! They grow to 8' long and are semi-pelagic. I've kept an adult male in a 90,000 gallon tank and that was just large enough for it. Newly hatched pups are too large to be housed in a 55 gallon tank. Then, the pups hatching from eggs have a high mortality rate, so you stand a good chance of losing the fish before it even reaches 24". They are also endangered as per the IUCN.

Newly hatched pups are too large to be housed in a 55 gallon tank. Then, the pups hatching from eggs have a high mortality rate, so you stand a good chance of losing the fish before it even reaches 24". They are also endangered as per the IUCN.

Do all sharks have high mortality rates from eggs? Also what would you recommend for a pond around 10,000g?

Wild caught, to my knowledge there isnt any captive bred sharks

I can tell you this get the 55g out of your thoughts, if the shark is healthy it wont be in there for more than 6 months max. I have no clue on the zebra sharks but I would 100% listen to @Jay Hemdal. I had 2 bamboo sharks I put into a 300g stock tank years ago as babies they were 24" in a little over a year, got them as new borns from a local breeder at the time. 300g and 2 bamboo sharks at 2 years is incredibly dumb, I am not sure what I was thinking. I am grateful for the the breeder helping me. I traded those in for a coral cat shark that was supposed to not get larger than 24-30" and in the time I had it it did not. I had it for the last 3years I was in the hobby before I got out. She was in the 300g the entire time and seemed very happy.

Yes. Tropicorium a sort of lfs here bred bamboo and not sure but think the coral cats too.( cant remember if they had bred the one I got or just got it in) @Jay Hemdal and probably @Reefer Matt can/ may be able to corroborate my story.
Also this guy on youtube has bred them many times.

I’d say keep the egg in 100 gallons even when it hatches and wanted outgrows that give it to pool, but I’d recommend a brown banded shark or coral shark

These are being bred by public aquariums for release back into the wild, but the eggs you see for sale are wild collected. Here is a link to the StAR project: https://www.reshark.org/star-project

For a 55 gallon tank, the only shark you will be able to house is the coral cat shark, and even those will outgrow that size tank in a few years.
