They'll use almost anything. Stop in at your local fish store they may give you extra shells for free or for a very low cost. Otherwise John at Reefcleaners has the option to buy empty hermit shells. Like @crabs_mcjones said they'll hope in any empty shell.. just ensure that your shells are size appropriate.

I figured this is what happen. I saw two of my blue legs around one of my snails that I was pretty sure was still alive. But I just got home from work and see one of the hermit shells empty and the snail shell gone.

Keep an eye on your snails, especially those that can't right themselves up if they fall/are attacked.

On the upside, I do always find it a little bit amusing to notice one of my snails moving oddly only to get up close and see legs sticking out of the shell.

nearly anything, find something roughly their size or larger. Personally I don't like hermits but thats just me

Does it make any Difference if the crabs are Right Handed, Paguridae Family or Left Handed Diogenidae Family for their Shell preference?
