so my gsp has been growin a bit and this mushroom has made a home on the same rock, im wonderding if this kind of interaction will lead to any harm for either, ive noticed some spots of grey/white on the tips of the mushroom only where the two touch. i didnt know if this might have been from them interacting or what

it's best to give them some space, I wouldn't personally want to risk the health of a mushroom by having it next to GSP :D

My money would be on the mushroom stinging the GSP and forcing it back.
As said, you should give them space if you want both of them.

I actually let nature decide these issues. I figure if they were next to each other in the ocean they would come to an understanding.
I’ve been adopting this mentality. Try to keep corals away from each other but inevitably they grow enough and will have to figure out the dynamic on their own.

Looks like they are both on the same rock.
Can you break the rock?
Take out of tank, hammer and chisel.

If you want to try and cut the rock, don't use a hammer and chisel.

You can't control the cut when using a chisel. The rock can break into pieces, possibly damaging the coral where it attaches to the rock.

I would suggest a grinder with a masonry cutting wheel.

It may take time, you will know when it does. Either GSP will see encroach on the mushroom and detatch or the mushroom will keep the GSP from growing in that direction.

gotcha so the mushroom should detatch before anything happens to it then?
Probably?!

It's hard to say for sure. Life has a way.
I, personally, would take it out, place it on my work bench, score it with the chisel, and Hammer away. Only to put it back in the tank.
I understand not many people would do this. But I bet PaulB would. This is how I reef, life has a way.

Hairy mushrooms are my problem child with stinging but you can apply flow towards the mushroom you have and it will move. Wont affect the GSP

Thank you for the kind words.

I have a calcium reactor and Mrs. Wages Kalk in another diy reactor. I fill that every 3 or 4 days with 3 tablespoons.

Kole tangs won't get bullied by a RG. Just make sure it's the same size or bigger, imo.
