I had this thing leftover when I switched over from fresh water and hooked it up.

I have it setup with a couple filter pads, and a media bag filled with carbon and gfo.

Either way, at this point, I think the pads can go as my water is pretty clean and I have a good cuc.

I know people say these filters are nitrate factories but after a few weeks of no cleaning, still undetectable nitrates with an api test.

Should I just remove this all together and add a couple media tumblers or let it keep going like it is? I am sumpless and running a hob skimmer if that matters.

The canister is a reactor. So if you want to go with something lower profile yea put it in the garage and go shopping.

The wate is nice because of the can imo.

Then become nitrate factories when folks don't clean them. Esp difficult if they use the media or live rock in them. That's hard to clean.

Same here , sumpless intank skimmer.
