Should i QT my first fish after a fallow?

Hey all,

Im planning on quarantining all additional fish going forward due to ich killing all my fish previously.

Im going to get some clarkii clowns but I just wondered if I could get away with just adding these two in without the 28 day quarantine?

I get its more likely just me being impatient but I would like to get some fish in asap as its been fish less since June.

It’s really up to you tbh. The tank should be okay to put fish in now, as your fallow period should be sufficient for ich at this point.

Lots of people would recommend QTing any new fish regardless as good practice, especially after going through a fallow period, as they could be carrying something nasty and undo all that waiting you did.

You could obviously take the risk and put the clowns straight in, but just bear in mind that if they are carrying ich or another parasite, you could potentially end up straight back where you started. Personally, after waiting this long, I’d probably just do the QT.

If you're going to QT, then QT. You can always find justifications for an exception, but making an exception to your QT protocol kind of defeats the purpose.

If you want to add fish that you haven't QT'd, get them from a vendor that does QT them like Dr. reef.

If you're going to QT, you need to QT. You already made that decision it seems. To add unknown sourced non QT'd fish now doesn't seem like the prudent plan for you.

Keep in mind this comes from a guy who has never QT'd a fish.

I never knew such a plave existed. Great idea that Dr reef but sadly cant ship to the uk. Ill just have to swallow the QT period I reckon

Or maybe there's a fish vendor out there that does QT? Im not familiar with the market over there.

If you are going through the trouble to run the tank fallow, why take the chance of adding fish that will defeat the fallow period?
Do the full qt.
