I think my buddy was gonna just skin the inside of the metal, to where both the wood and metal would show. Was gonna be slick looking, but he ending up keeping just the metal stand since it wasn't his display tank.

Thanks a pretty cool idea, and there's nothing wrong with not skinning a metal stand for your display

Yup, I almost picked up a metal stand for my last tank, but decided to build a wood one instead. I just thought it would look better since it was in the living area downstairs :)

Here is mine. Built out of 1.5" square .120 wall powder coated white. I then built a wood "skin" to go around the stand. I primed, sanded and painted the skin with automotive paint.

tcfab, that stand looks great. What size tank is that? Also what are you using on top of the stand, under the tank? Really nice looking.

Looks nice - did you add doors once it was finished or did you go with the open front?

I really like how you can end up with a nice looking "wooden" stand, but without all the bulk.

Yea doors were added, the wife would have it in the house no other way.

I hear you - unfortunately, my wife still hasn't gotten her doors.

Here is my stand out of some scrap C4x5.4 channel and 2" .120 wall square tubing I had. I skinned the stand with wood panels and cabinet doors using magnets to hold the panels to the stand.
