I've been fighting the worst hair algae I've ever had with receding frogspawn and hammers. I have lost 2 of 5 heads of my favorite torch so I bit the bullet and sent in an ICP. My nitrate and phosphates measure at 0 because of the algae so I've never gotten any answers there. I lost my dosing pump a few weeks ago and am in the process of dialing everything back in but all of my Acropora and SPS are going strong so I don't suspect the alk swings doing the damage to my lps. The tank is 2 years old and you know when it just seems off, right? Anyway, I had some minor trace elements low and my alkalinity was high but I was slowly bringing things back down. I checked my ICP today and nothing crushing really jumped out at me, then I look at my RODI and BAM, 136.0 µg/l silicon on the tank water, 2962 µg/l on the RODI. Then I realized, silicon, not silicates. Any way you slice it I'm a little freaked. Is this what has been fueling my hair algae and irritating my LPS? There are lots of people on here that excel in chemistry that I hope will chime in.
Should I order 2 more DI cartridges? Is there anything that will pull this out of water? Does silicon even do anything at all?

Thanks,
JOe

Edit: Good Read, Randy Chimes in near the bottom. Hopefully it will help you out with your concerns?
