I'm looking for some ideas to setup a basic 20L. I've got a diy 10g sump and I want to drill an extra 20L I have laying around. I've got 1" bulkhead and strainer along with a 3/4" bulkhead and loc-line for the return.

Not sure of the question, but setting up a 20L is exactly what I did for a QT/frag tank. Drilled it for the drain and return. Feel free to click the link in my signature if you'd like.

If you're asking if you can simply drill a hole, install a bulkhead with a strainer (no overflow box), the answer is yes, but...

Keep in mind, just using a strainer will not provide you surface skimming, or at least very little. More importantly, the drain down during pump outage will be significant so you need to make sure you have plenty of room in the sump. Just food for thought if that is what you're thinking.

Looking good. What's your plan for stocking and lights?

Been running since late July. Have a couple of clowns with softies primarily . Simple two baffle refugium with no skimmer. It's a black box led with the lenses removed . Haven't done a water change since the start. Grape caulerpa has been growing like crazy. I'm removing nutrients every week

Looks great, i've got a spare overflow box from an hob overflow so I may just cut that up and do something similar to yours. That way I can get the skimming from the overflow weir but still keep it cheap by using stuff I already have laying around.
