those who reef together stay together . next month will be 32 years for us .. We have a Single friend that is into Reef Tanks but he works to much to be dating..

everyone needs there own thing , sharing a hobby is not always easy for us. I want this.. No we are buying that.. Well if you buy that i am buying this.. we can have both....

That is a tough one. Years ago when I was single I wanted to find a woman who shared my interest in fly fishing. I can count the "single" women I've seen stream side on one hand. I actually talked to one who was 10 years my senior but never got a number. I think the same would be for the local reef club I was in, several attractive women, but alas they were all taken.

FWIW I went on a hike and am facebook friends with the famous "tangirl" on the old reefs.org site. I don't think she even has a reef anymore.

I would focus on a good dating site and find someone who touches several aspects and interests. My wife doesn't care much about fishing, but doesn't mind being the net girl. She likes the reef and I support her music hobby/business. We both like animals and the outdoors, she made me a dog person.

I think he should have taken it slower. Maybe buy her a bouquet of Rock Flowers. Even a sushi dinner. Some girls are much more selective about who's Rodi they put in their tank. Jmo

You don’t want a reef chick, we are crazy, and weird, and the salt dries out our skin aging us prematurely lol. I wouldn’t deliberately try to find someone in the hobby. I would find someone who has all the qualities I am looking for and MAKE them interested, which is what I did. JK my husband has no interest in my tank and occasionally gets annoyed when I have to go to club meetings, but I was already in deep before I met him so he knew what he was getting into. I remind him every time he complains about my hobby (which honestly isn’t often). I also remind him that I don’t say a word about there being a guitar in every spare corner of the house lol. Look for someone that you can make a life with that you can teach about reefing, and will maybe take an interest, instead of narrowing down to a select few people in a male dominated hobby.

I think looking for a fellow reefer is a good idea if it's your life blood but short of that I wouldn't narrow your search that far in the beginning. I find almost all animal people will come to appreciate the animals your excited about even if it isn't in their niche. My girlfriend is an animal person but specifically a bird person, I on the other hand keep mostly reptiles, arachnids and fish but I have always loved birds and had a few growing up but never on her level, she has 9 at the moment! Since we started dating she has gotten herself a snake and soon a tortoise (it blows her mind how low maintenance reptiles are, mind you a part of that is contrast;Hilarious).

Most of my friends are animal people as well, I find that a passion for living things is the only connection I need to get along with someone. Even if they don't like the exact animals I do most people realize I get the same happiness from my skink that they get from their hamster and thats how it all starts!

Again if its your life blood then maybe try the scuba, surfing or fishing community, other ocean involved hobbies means (for the most part) other people who respect and appreciate the ocean and the life within it!

For what its worth I found my girlfriend within a month or two of deciding to stop looking, if you pursue what makes you happy you'll inevitably find someone who's chasing the same thing;)

Not a word....my wife has three and she is still learning. I don't think I've heard her play the electric which she has had for several years. I just turned "our" hobby room into her hobby room. She is much happier now having a music space. She also just bought an African drum...

This got me thinking....my local Petco is dominated by women whether they are in the fish section, the ferret section, the dog groomers. I know that many people give Petco a bad rap, but it can also be the only outlet for work in this field for many.

I remember buying a tank there for my "island" project and the sales woman and I started a conversation about it. She was very interested in what I was building.

Probably a good plan. I owned a bearded dragon when I met my other half... and took to his reefing hobby pretty quickly ;)

Honestly my last 2 GF were not into fishes at all! But they loved the tanks as long as they didn’t have to touch it! My current GF smokes I think that helps because when she’s sober she nags about everything bucket here, test kit there etc! whenever she’s over and she doesn’t even live with me, but when we are on cloud 9 she stares at my tank more than me I think it’s very soothing and surprisingly enough the small trickle from the overflow puts her to sleep she loves it smh. But I can’t lie it Would be nice to share this hobby with her wishful thinking.... I remember a while back I did date someone and that “oh you into fishes” was my Q to say peace! I hate judgmental people it’s just a fish tank why is that anymore weird than owning a cat or a dog ?

Heck I would have been divorced a whole heck of a lot sooner than I was...I made it to 13 years..... lol I’m glad my gf is not on this I told her I was considering a reefbot I told her it was $100 I feel so guilty but she judged me on $100 but she judges all my expenses unless it’s on dinner or events she likes lol

We reef together, but I'm the spender... he was fine with the skimmer that was a little smaller/less expensive, and I told him to get the big one so I could buy another fish or two ;) And, I'm the one that picks out the $100-200 wrasses...

But, we do have disagreements on livestock sometimes. We both hold veto power for livestock, and that can be frustrating if one really likes something and the other is a hard-no. Most of the time we can come up with some sort of compromise, thankfully.
