Hey All,

I’m starting a 40 gallon breeder and am thinking of getting a UV for parasite control. I’m assuming to kill parasites I need high wattage with a low flow pump? Should I get a 12 watt or 24watt and would this one Amazon product ASIN B0CDKSXFPDWork? Seems reasonably priced and good quality. What do y’all think?

It’s metric sized so finding hoses might be challenging.

But the only problem I see is that it doesn’t specify flow rate to achieve the desired efficiency, so you have to guess instead of plan for a pump or flow supply to get it to work properly.

30 or 90 days of guarante. Only 50, I would try it if I had metric hoses and a pump.

Oh, forgot to mention that uv bulbs are good for a year of life and then they have to be replaced to keep them functioning.

How much are the replacements if they are available?

I would point out these are stainless steel housing, i wouldn't trust that anywhere near saltwater tbh.

12 watt is more than you need. Don’t worry about it being sized for mm tubing. Tubing is flexible, you can just get a slightly smaller size and shove it on, a lil heat on the end of the tubing and it’s definitely going on.
Agree ^ to having steel near tank not the best idea. If it’s a high grade stainless it’s probably fine but don’t want to start that debate and personally wouldn’t chose stainless steel.
I’ve been running a few of these on a few tanks for over 13 years without issue. Change the bulb every year and all is good.

I understand the theory of watts and gallons but these tables are made for specific brands and should reflect the efficiency of this particular model but ultimately the exposure of water to watts and the dwell time impact the kill rate and unit efficiency.

I don’t recall how much I have been drinking but the brain cells are exiting the building.
