I still don’t know how they do it, but I find snails in my sump. That means they go down the overflow compartment, up the pipe, down the pipe, in and out of the filter sock, over the baffle and into the sump. Not typically an issue. I just plop them back into the tank.
This morning I noticed my skimmer looked weird. It was drawing water but had no bubbles and the water level was low. I took it out and dismantled it. I found two snails stuck in it. When I cleaned it up, I noticed the magnetic shaft had slight gouges all over it. I put it back together, put it in a sink of water and plugged it in. It vibrates badly and won’t draw much water or make any bubbles. It seems like the motor still works... it’s not completely burned and nonfunctional. But I don’t know if it’s damaged beyond repair. If I ordered a new shaft for it, is it possible that it still won’t work? In other words, if the pump still turns on, does that mean that a new shaft will fix it?
Thanks!
