Skimmer foot print

I am looking to upgrade my skimmer. My skimmer chamber in sump is 11x12. It also shares the 4" filter sock holder. One skimmer i am looking at has a foot print of 11x9. This says it will not work because of the sock. But will it if you take in account if the thinner neck area of the skimmer. Does anyone have skimmer and sock share chamber with those dimensions.
