Skimmer overflowing

I have a SRO 2000int it's been working great for almost 3 months now all of a sudden it is overflowing like crazy. I have the gate wide open but it is still foaming like crazy and overflowing. It's sitting in 6" of water like it recommends. Any ideas?

Are you carbon dosing or using any other type of nitrate reducing media? I started carbon dosing and my skimmer went crazy for a few days. What that means is a algae bloom and once it is over everything returned to normal. It was removing excess nutients which is good.

hi!, you changed your sock for a new one? happened to me the day I use a new sock, my skimmer overflowed, just turn off the skimmer for about 15 minutes and left to overflow

Have you added any type of water "conditioners", or used any "red slime removers"? These can cause your skimmer to go nuts.

I don't carbon dose, I cleaned it in a vinegar bath and took the pump apart, no clog. I don't use socks. Yes I did use Chemi clean to get rid of some cyano, turned the skimmer off for 24 hours, then it over flowed, left it off for 3 days and now it's been running for a day, steady overflowing.

It sounds like you have lots of protein to be skimmed and/or your additions have change the surface tension of the water (all of which would be due to the additions and shut downs).. OR your exhaust tubing needs cleaned out with a bottle brush.

It is overflowing from the chemiclean. It should go back to normal after it removes all of the chemiclean.

Thanks guys, I was letting it overflow back into the tank because I didn't want to remove that much water. I let it drain into a bucket and less than a gallon later it settled down. Thanks for the help once again.

LOL.. yep.. that would do it too... !! nothing like reskimming the skimmit to make a skimmer go nutz..
