Skimmer Overflows with Cleaned Filter Socks??

This is the mystery I can’t figure out. I change out Four Filter Socks on Three Aquariums, every three to four days. They are Sprayed off in a clean laundry sink, and placed in a Regular Clorox Solution overnight. They are thoroughly rinsed off the next day, and hung up to dry. I have enough for four changes. When I change out the two socks on my 120 Gallon, the LifeReef Skimmer overflows, when installing a clean filter sock, unless I shut it down for a half hour. It will do this with just one filter sock, on this Aquarium. It even did this when installing a brand new filter sock, that was just rinsed and installed. The removal of the dirty filter sock has nothing to do with this. Also on my 65 gallon, with a single Filter Sock, the same model of LifeReef Skimmer, it doesn’t do this.

Is the bleach degrading the sock material and the skimmer is collecting the fibres?

I have a life reef skimmer too... I just spray my socks off with a sprayer and let them dry. No bleach. I do not have this issue. Try without the bleach maybe?

It happens... I dial down the speed on my Octo 200 Elite for about 10 minutes when I change filter socks. It does the trick.

I used to get the same issue, but when I changed my clarisea filter roll . My skimmer would go nuts .

Not sure the reason but my skimmer does the same thing. I just turn down my skimmer for a bit everytime I change the socks out.

I buy 10 filter socks at a time and wash them in the washing machine with no soap, no bleach, no nothing, just water BEFORE I use them. This will eliminate the problem. It is residue during the manufacturing process.

Internal or external skimmer. If internal is your skimmer water level increasing. Even one sock is enough to let all the back water come rushing into the chamber. My external skimmer is not phased by a sock change and I do use bleach on mine.

So this is what happens when I change my filter socks. When I raise the filter sock out of the holder the nasty inside of the filter sock sometimes seeps through, which then triggers my skimmer. It doesn’t matter if it’s a replacement with a new sock or an old sock. It’s basically the debris that gets through my filter sock when I’m taking it out to change to a new one, but if I turn the skimmer down wait 30 minutes and turn it back on I have no issues.

I found out it was excessive bubbles coming off the dry Filter Socks till they get wet. I now change one, wait five minutes and change the other one. Filter Socks have a Plastic Grommet on them so Pods can escape.
