Skimmer Question

I know this is a dumb question but I just noticed my white hose on my skimmer isnt connected to the water return(not the pump). Its a little gray connector. Is it suppose to be hooked up there? Its never been hooked up. Whats the purpose of having it hooked up there?

What skimmer are you running? I'm a little confused by the question. Can you post some pictures possibly? Pictures will make it much easier to help you out. If you can't post the pictures just post what skimmer it.

Its a vertex skimmer. Here are 2 pics.

Pic 1 was how its been since ive had it.

Pic 2 is me asking is this suppose to be hooked up here? Ive seen in photos of it hooked up. Whats the purpose of it being hooked up?

It is supposed to be hooked up there. I'm pretty sure it's only to silence the sound of the air being drawn in through the Venturi.
