Of the following, which would you guys recommend for a roughly 300g system:

- Reef Octopus Elite 220SSS
- Reef Octopus Regal 250SSS
- Nyos Quantum 220
- Nyos Quantum 300

I have a Vertex Omega on a smaller system, that I am a big fan of, but I don't love their bigger Alpha options. Trying to minimize the footprint inside the sump, so I'd prefer a skimmer with the pump inside the body. Not totally opposed to external skimmers, but not sure what the plan is for fish room, utility closet, etc. so trying to keep everything in the sump or at least under the stand.

Any other high quality options I am missing?

Thanks!

Suggest at least taking a look at Life Reef. Think that you will find that many on this forum who have been at this for many years have ended up with them after owning many others. I have had Reef Octopus, Bubble King, Vertex and Life Reef. The latter being by far the best. Might have to wait in line for it but it will be worth the wait.

I'll take your word for the performance, but man... That website took me back to college and my 14.4kbps modem...

I'm currently running a Vertex Alpha 200 in a 60 gallon sump for my 180 DT and all I can do is sing praises about it except for - yes it does have a big footprint. However, I'll be switching over to the Nyos Quantum 200 for precisely the same reasons that you are. I was pretty impressed by the reviews. It's scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so I'll update you with my impressions of it in a couple of weeks after I drop it in and give it a chance to settle.

If you opt for the Nyos, with the size of your DT you might be better served going for the 300

Yeah, the Nyos look very nice. Price is a bit higher, but generally I feel like you get what you pay for. It's a shame that Vertex doesn't make bigger skimmers with similar footprints to the Omega 180 and Omega 200.

I whole-heartedly agree. Since you'd end up taking out a small mortgage anyway, go out with a bang and go as big as possible - you'll thank yourself down the road
