Hey All,

I have a deltec 1455 and I've had a for quite awhile. Now when setting up skimmer everyone say you should be seeing dark liquid getting pulled out. For me I get a yellowish color but the wastes builds up in the neck and on the scraper of my skimmer. Its set to max air flow and sitting in 9inch water. Am I doing something wrong?

How big is your tank and what are your stocking levels?

I run the little brother to the 1455, the 1351 on my 57 gallon tank. I keep it in 8” of water and open up the flow knob to get a nice and dry foam giving me pretty dark skimmate. I use my wiper blade once every couple of days and it gets covered in thick brown sludge.

Have you tried turning the adjustment knob counter clockwise to adjust it for drier foam? Also, by raising the skimmer to an 8” water depth, it will give you a greater range of adjustment.

Running on a 130G tank. Few fish also 2 wrasse, 2 goby, a clown, and firefish. I might try to raise it also as you mention.

That’s a fairly light buoload for a 130 gallon tank. So it may very well be possible that your skimmer is running at maximum efficiency given the amount of livestock in your tank.
